Leuven (Louvain), VBR develops clearer picture of excessive nighttime noise with smart technology
Seven sensors along high-traffic streets and sidewalks in Naamsestraat were in operation through December 2021. These devices measured real-time sound levels, maximum decibel levels, and whether noises were produced by people or vehicles. Residents in the pilot zone recorded their experiences with excessive noise on a mobile app. Sensor data shaped a one-year campaign to nudge residents toward quieter behaviors with sound-activated signage and lights.

Leuven (Louvain), VBR analyzes trends in adult recreational activities with Smart Sporting Cities

Green spaces at Sportoase Philipssite Leuven are monitored by solar-powered sensors rotated throughout the pilot. IoT assets gather anonymized data on the number of adult patrons, types of sporting activities, and duration of park use.
