Leuven (Louvain), VBR develops clearer picture of excessive nighttime noise with smart technology

Leuven (Louvain), VBR Excessive Nighttime Noise Technology

Seven sensors along high-traffic streets and sidewalks in Naamsestraat were in operation through December 2021. These devices measured real-time sound levels, maximum decibel levels, and whether noises were produced by people or vehicles. Residents in the pilot zone recorded their experiences with excessive noise on a mobile app. Sensor data shaped a one-year campaign to nudge residents toward quieter behaviors with sound-activated signage and lights.
