Milwaukee, WI Amani Safety Initiative surveys public safety
The Milwaukee Police Department collaborated with the Data You Can Use organization to organize the Amani Safety Initiative. Neighborhood ambassadors were trained to conduct door-to-door surveys in on public safety concerns and police legitimacy. The results of these surveys were distributed back to residents of the Amani neighborhood in the form of meetings and door hangers.

The neighborhood ambassadors canvassed approximately 300 local residents. Neighbors and community organizations were surprised by the survey results. Though violent crime and mistrust in the police were commonly thought to be the biggest issues, the data showed that residents were most concerned about traffic safety. Ultimately, residents decided to post slow-down signs in intersections.
