The council works with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services to train volunteers over a two-day program. This curriculum includes medical and mental health first aid, disaster response, and emergency communications. Participants also register with Red Cross Australia and Volunteering Queensland for ongoing training. Community Champions use this training for community preparation, response, and recovery to natural disasters.

2019 Get Ready Queensland Resilient Australia Awards | Queensland Reconstruction Authority

Congratulations to the finalists and winners announced at the 2019 Get Ready Queensland Resilient Australia Awards on Thursday 19 September. The awards recognised projects that have helped Queensland communities better prepare for natural disasters and emergencies. The 2019 Get Ready Queensland Resilient Australia Awards were highly competitive with a record 34 entries across six categories. It was great to see all of the innovative projects from across Queensland, working to build this state’s resilience to natural disasters.
