In 2015, the Shawnee Fire Department analyzed its local fire response data. They discovered a significant increase in the number of cooking-related fires specifically in multi-family housing units on the east side of the city. In response, fire prevention personnel provided educational materials on cooking fires to apartment managers in those areas.

Within one year of these educational outreach efforts, the Shawnee Fire Department recognized a 25% decrease in local cooking fires. The data analysis was directly responsible for a decrease in property damage and an increase in public safety.
