The City of Victoria launched a $50,000 participatory budgeting initiative to invest in projects benefiting new immigrants and refugees. Residents with ideas for projects designed to enrich the lives of newcomers, foster diversity, and promote inclusion were invited to apply online. The voting process was run by a volunteer Steering Committee and seven community-led projects received funding. The projects included a sustainability workshop, healthcare app, intervention training, etc.

The initiative received an overwhelming response from the community with a record breaking 26 projects going out for community voting. More than 2,500 residents voted for the projects they wanted to see funded.
