Waitaki District Council, NZ created a commemorative publication to showcase COVID-19 experiences

Waitaki District Council created a special commemorative publication titled "Waitaki's Memories from Lockdown Time Capsule" to preserve the memories of residents during the COVID-19 lockdown. The Council held a competition which encouraged residents to submit a snapshot of their lives during the pandemic. Sixteen winners were selected to have their entries included in the publication and each were awarded a $100 voucher to support a local business.

Waitaki District Council, NZ launched the "Let's Get Ready to Grumble" public engagement campaign

Waitaki District Council launched the "Let's Get Ready to Grumble" public engagement campaign to give residents an opportunity to chat with with Council staff. The Council deployed "Wanda the conversation caravan" so Council Communications staff could travel to local gathering places and meet with residents. Participants were encouraged to air any grievances directly to the staff and rewarded with free apple crumbles for their grumbles.

Waitaki District Council, NZ Spark Jump program provides free wi-fi for families at public libraries

Waitaki District Council provides internet access to families with children under the age of 18 who lack access at home through the Spark Jump initiative. The Council partners with Spark a New Zealand based telecommunications company to supply these families with a free Skinny modem, 30GB of data, and a low cost data plan. This program was designed to help households that require internet access for their children's education.
