Yonkers, NY pioneers e-scooter use in the state through partnership with Bird
Yonkers, NY Bird E-Scooter Partnership
Complete
City officials first approved New York's first bike-sharing program in 2018. This pilot stationed 200 Bird electric scooters in the city's southwestern neighborhoods. Yonkers was able to expand the fleet to 500 scooters based on demand. E-scooters were allowed to operate on streets and bike lanes at speeds up to 30 miles per hour. The Bird pilot provided low-cost and low-emission mobility that complemented existing transit options.
Project Succeeded
The pilot handled 50,000 scooter trips and eliminated 10.2 metric tons of carbon emissions in its first year.
