Akron, OH ambulance telehealth medicine pilot program

In Progress

The Akron Fire Department (AFD) is collaborating with the Cleveland Clinic to pilot the use of telehealth in ambulances. The telehealth technology allows EMTs and paramedics to help patients talk to a physician instead of taking them to an emergency room. The pilot program follows the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services ET3 model and is only used in non-emergency situations. Each of the AFD's 14 ambulances is equipped for telehealth and the service has been used over 1,000 times so far.
