In Progress
A three-year pilot turns research from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and other partners into a real-time traffic management system. Sensors and cameras on the 10-block MLK Smart Corridor generate 800 million data points per day. The first two years of the project resulted in algorithms that automatically adjust traffic lights. City commuters are experiencing these insights during the third year as reductions in fuel consumption, time in traffic, and accidents.
