Cheshire East Council, GB Community Heating Pilot

Planning

The council is working with utility firm Engie to create a community heating network based in Macclesfield. A smart grid network will allow heat produced in commercial locations to reach council housing and residential areas. Council officials and Engie are evaluating power generation options like water-source heat, geothermal, and waste energy that reduce carbon emissions.
