Cumbria County Council, GB Rapid Response Vehicle trial

Complete

Cumbria County Council's Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service conducted a six-month trial of two new smaller, all-terrain Rapid Response Vehicles. The vehicles include new equipment including an ultra-efficient firefighting pump and battery-operated cutting equipment which require fewer staff to operate compared to the previous models. The six-month trial was designed to determine if the Rapid Response Vehicles could replace the County's traditional fire engines.

Project Succeeded

During the six-month trial, the Rapid Response Vehicles significantly increased availability between 22-27% during 2019 when comparing crewing requirements for a traditional fire engine. The community fire stations successfully responded to a wide range of incidents from road traffic collisions to property fires utilising their new capabilities and equipment which provided an effective and efficient response.
