Edmonton, AB trials anti-microbial push plates at transit centers to combat viral transmission
Edmonton, AB Anti-Microbial Push Plate Transit Trial
Edmonton Transit Services (ETS) will work with local firm Outbreaker to evaluate its compressed salt plates at 10 facilities. Outbreaker and the University of Alberta previously determined the door plates eliminated 99.9% of bacteria in as little as two minutes. The six-month pilot assesses whether the plates can achieve similar success against COVID-19 and the flu virus. This no-cost project coincides with an ETS switch to antimicrobial seats on two-thirds of its light rail cars.
