The Grandview Police Department launched the Move Toward the Badge program to develop sustainable community partnerships through a culture of consistent outreach and engagement. The Move Toward the Badge program involves all 57 sworn officers participating in community engagement on a regular basis including teaching classes, hosting events, ride-alongs during routine patrols, party attendance, reading stories to children, volunteering, etc.

Move Toward the Badge Grandview, Missouri Cemal Gungor, City Administrator Protestors and police faced each other in the streets of many U.S. cities in the summer of 2020, including in the Kansas City, Missouri, metro area. While activists called for defunding police in nearby cities, in the minority-majority community of Grandview the Pastors Alliance was praying with and for Grandview Police Officers, and residents were thanking officers for their service and inviting them to engage in real community conversations.
Grandview PD heads back to HS for new initiative
For the next four months, officers will be sitting down with Grandview High School seniors to have lunch and connect with students.
Project Succeeded
The Grandview Police Department earned the ICMA's 2021 Community Partnership Award for Excellence for the Move Toward the Badge program's evolving response to community needs.
