The authority worked with Vivacity to install AI-enabled sensor systems at three Salford intersections in 2020. Each sensor evaluates traffic flows, vehicle types, and weather conditions to optimize lights. Cyclists and pedestrians are prioritized when possible to fulfill Manchester's active travel goals. Transport for Greater Manchester anticipates 20 intersections to use Vivacity systems by 2021.
