Hamilton, ON Proactive Leak Detection Program Water Loss
Hamilton used Gutermann's ZoneScan 820 radio loggers for a four-month detection pilot. The city selected a zone for logger deployment each evening. Loggers were magnetically affixed to hydrants and mainline valves for the detection of water leak sounds over a 200-meter radius. This approach meant that 7.5 kilometers of water main were monitored per night. City officials relied on leak mapping for timely repairs of 177 leaks and sensor data for its 10-year water main replacement program.
