Jacksonville, FL addresses food deserts with free on-demand rides to grocery stores
Jacksonville, FL Free On-Demand Rides Grocery Stores
The one-year pilot transports Northside residents to seven grocery stores and the Jacksonville Farmers Market. City and Jacksonville Transportation Authority officials leveraged the existing Readiride on-demand transit service for this program. Qualifying residents can request rides up to two hours in advance by calling the Readiride reservation line. The Door to Store program reduces barriers to good nutrition created by fixed transit limitations and COVID-19 restrictions.
