Leicester City Council, GB Graduate City Programme
Leicester, De Montfort University, and the University of Leicester partnered on the initiative for second-year students. Project leaders found most of the 500 businesses contacted about the initiative never recruited local university students. Participating students worked paid internships lasting six weeks at small businesses in high-growth industries. The LGCP revealed job opportunities for young professionals and opened talent pipelines to growing enterprises.

Project Succeeded
Leicester won the Future-Ready category for the East Midlands region at the 2022 All-England FSB Local Government Awards. Post-internship surveys found that 78% of students would stay in the city after graduation compared to 52% in pre-internship surveys.
