London Borough of Croydon, GB works toward emission reductions with ground heating system pilot
London Borough of Croydon, GB Ground Heat System Emissions
A 30-resident block of housing is participating in the council's ground heating system pilot. This system extracts underground thermal heat, allowing the replacement of electrical heaters. The system produces one-third of the emissions created by existing heat sources. Pilot participants will save up to £300 per year due to the low cost of producing energy. Borough councilors approved the pilot as part of a 10-year plan to reach carbon neutrality.
