Manchester City Council, GB cuts emissions with the purchase of plug-in waste collection vehicles
Manchester City Council, GB Plug-in Waste Vehicle Purchase
The city partnered with waste contractor Biffa to acquire 27 plug-in electric collection trucks. City leaders approved funding following an 18-month trial of an Electra truck on local routes. This purchase replaces nearly half of Biffa's local fleet with a similar cost to new diesel trucks. Manchester will cut tailpipe emissions by 900 tons per year or 4% of the city's total emissions. An investment in zero-emission trucks helps Manchester achieve an emission-free goal by 2038.
