City departments and Monash University added smart lights to Atherton Road that act as smart asset hubs. These lights contain sensors that monitor air quality, temperature, and foot traffic. Wi-Fi built into the lights connects waste management personnel to the latest data from smart bins. Monash uses the TST Smart City platform from Traffic Technologies to manage data streams. A successful pilot could lead to adoption in other areas and additional features like smart parking.

i-Sense Oakleigh: The Smart Connected Precinct

The project is a collaboration between Monash City Council and Monash University to build a smart precinct underpinned by advance sensoring technologies and a data communication network. The network provides a connected platform to sense, collect and analyse relevant data to improve liveability for the community within the precinct. The sensors and its platform will collect and fuse different data on mobility including vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians, as well as improve utilisation of public spaces such as on-street and off-street parking.
