Salford City Council, GB Community Calling Smartphone Scheme

City leaders partnered with O2, Hubbub, and Salford CVS to collect used smartphones at five locations. Devices are refurbished into working order with phone and data plans. Community Calling recipients include asylum seekers, low-income households, and domestic abuse victims. This scheme fits within the council-run Digital Everyone initiative of computer skill-building lessons and tablet donations to schools.
