The Municipality of Staffanstorp created an SMS service to instantly notify residents of any operational disruptions specifically regarding water, sewage, sanitation, and roads. Anyone that is registered in the municipality, over the age of 16, and owns a mobile phone automatically receives text messages from the service. Users can add or delete their mobile number from the service, link multiple addresses to one mobile number, or report malfunctions on the municipality's SMS service website.

St Joseph County, IN launched a passport program that rewards prizes to residents for visiting parks

St Joseph County launched the #OnlyinTheBend Parks Pass, a free passport program, to encourage residents to visit 20 local parks. Participants can check-in at local parks via geographical data on their smartphone to get credit for their visits. Participants that visit five parks receive a pair of sunglasses and participants that visit 20 parks receive a red fanny pack.

The City of Sacramento partnered with Yubico to build a more secure remote work infrastructure. Previously, the city relied only on PortalGuard for its Single Sign-On functionality and multi-factor authentication capabilities. However, the city was only able to deploy mobile-based voice and text one-time passwords to employees with government-issued mobile devices. The city now also uses Yubico's hardware security key YubiKeys to minimize reliance on mobile-based authentication.

Salford City Council, GB address digital exclusion with Community Calling Smartphone Donation Scheme

City leaders partnered with O2, Hubbub, and Salford CVS to collect used smartphones at five locations. Devices are refurbished into working order with phone and data plans. Community Calling recipients include asylum seekers, low-income households, and domestic abuse victims. This scheme fits within the council-run Digital Everyone initiative of computer skill-building lessons and tablet donations to schools.
