The city of San Diego's Performance and Analytics Department created an algorithm that considers data from the Transportation Department such as school proximity, traffic accidents, and population density to prioritize streetlight repairs. The algorithm calculates these factors to produce an equitable ranking of the city's 5,000 malfunctioning streetlights.
