Wellington City Council, NZ continues revival of Māori language use with Mahau mobile app

Wellington City Council, NZ Māori Language Mahau Mobile App

Complete

Mahau is a free interactive tool for residents and visitors interested in the Māori language. Users learn vowel sounds and basic questions in dialects local to Wellington. The app also explains how to structure Maori introductions (pepeha), non-Maori greetings (mihimihi), and prayers (karakia). An interactive map provides audio and text descriptions of Māori place names in the region. Wellington worked with local iwi (tribes) during the app's development.
