The centerpiece of Latitude 53 is a 3.1-megawatt plant connected to Hinton's abundant geothermal reservoirs. Energy generated from a water-powered turbine feeds into a vertical farm using aquaculture and hydroponic techniques. Local officials anticipate future usage of excess energy for a district heating system. Latitude 53 will create 120 full-time jobs, harness local renewable energy resources, and produce healthy food for residents upon completion in 2025.
