The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the Sheriff's Office new ordinance which makes 911 calls motivated by bias illegal. The law creates civil penalties up to $1,000 against reports someone to law enforcement on the basis of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, etc. According to the new law, the individual who had the police called on them would have the right to pursue a civil lawsuit against the discriminatory caller.
