Western Bay of Plenty District Council, NZ conducted a six-month rural recycling drop-off trial

Western Bay of Plenty District Council, NZ rural recycling

Complete

Western Bay of Plenty District Council partnered with Waste Watchers Limited to conduct a six-month Pongakawa rural recycling trial. This project established the Pongakawa mobile recycling centre to support rural areas where the Council does not plan to implement a kerbside collection service. The trial was designed to examine the use of drop-off points in order to evaluate the level of demand for a kerbside recycling, glass, and rubbish collection service in those rural areas.

The rural recycling drop-off point at BP Pongakawa follows Council's decision on 26 June 2019 to introduce a Council-contracted kerbside recycling, glass collection and rubbish collection service across approximately 80 percent of the District. Council is deciding whether to create additional rural recycling drop-off points across the District. To see what you think, we're running a drop-off point at BP Pongakawa on Saturday 6 June, Saturday 20 June, Saturday 4 July and Saturday 18 July.
