Austin, TX is piloting a lidar-based intelligent traffic system at a dangerous intersection
Austin, TX lidar-based traffic monitoring pilot
The City of Austin is partnering with Velodyne Lidar to pilot a real-time 3D map of a dangerous intersection. The intersection was selected based on high rates of accidents, fatalities, speeding, and congestion. The lidar-based intelligent traffic system will monitor traffic allowing the city to efficiently collect and analyze data which will help improve roadway safety. The system has the potential to completely replace the city's system of inductive loop detectors, cameras, and radar.
