The city is converting 1,000 light fixtures to LED in 16 neighborhoods with high crime rates. LED fixtures improve visibility, cut annual costs by $12,000, and provide a template for future expansion. Dallas also plans to connect its fiber-optic lines to 10 recreation centers, libraries, and fire stations. Residents of low-connectivity areas can attend school, work, and telehealth appointments using high-speed Internet.
