Glasgow City Council, GB introduces the first cycle-activated road signs in the United Kingdom
Glasgow City Council, GB Cycle-Activated Road Signs
Twenty-two solar-powered signs were installed at 16 intersections and business entrances across the city. A cycle logo and triangular warning lights on each sign activate whenever bikes pass nearby sensors. Sign locations were selected based on evaluations of sight lines and surrounding features that may impair driver awareness of cyclists. This project followed a successful pilot of the technology at Berkeley Street and Claremont Street.
