City officials approved operating permits for Bird and Veo ahead of the six-month pilot. Each operator will maintain 1,000 e-scooters and e-bikes including adaptive options. Rider safety and vehicle operation campaigns by the operators complement the city's active travel work with the New Jersey Bike and Walk Coalition. The Newark Department of Engineering installed parking corrals in each ward to ensure equitable access to affordable transportation.
