Richmond, VA experiments with guaranteed income through the Richmond Resilience Initiative

Richmond, VA Guaranteed Income Resilience Initiative

In Progress

Eighteen households served by the city's Office of Community Wealth Building receive $500 per month in direct payments. Randomly selected participants do not qualify for other benefits because they exceed income requirements. The initiative does not set limitations on how payments are used and elevate recipients toward living wages. Richmond used a donation from the Robins Foundation along with CARES Act funds for the initial rollout.
