Bundaberg, QLD tracks progress toward its One Million Trees goal with engagement portal

The regional council set the planting goal for the end of 2024 on the path to a net-zero community by 2030. Residents head to the portal to request two seedlings per home or up to 250 free trees as part of the Landowner Program. There are also online forms for submitting trees planted at a resident's expense and suggesting locations for council planting. Inputs from these sources produce a map of every tree planted in Bundaberg with 122,617 trees recorded as of March 23, 2023.

Henderson, NV brings 200 short-term rentals from illegal to compliant

Henderson’s planning staff were surprised to learn that 400 short-term rentals were operating illegally when they knew of only a few units that had caused complaints. Staff introduced new ordinances and began using the Host Compliance software — which helped bring 50% of STRs into compliance in six months. Staff report that registered properties are paying the required transient lodging taxes, which are then distributed throughout the valley.

Nashville’s Codes Department achieves 90+% STR compliance

“Nobody wants a fleet of micro-hotels, bought up by investors, popping up in their quiet residential neighborhood,” said Jon Michael, Zoning Administrator. Nashville was struggling to enforce their STR regulations through a mostly complaint-driven process. Trying to identify addresses and manage compliance manually proved impossible. Since implementing Host Compliance, Nashville has more than doubled their compliance rate; 5,525 or 91% of STRs have a permit and are paying taxes with Metro.

County of Hawaii, HI Empowers Staff to Boost Website Performance

The County of Hawai'i’s website was outdated: its codebase was limited, it didn’t integrate well with modern applications, and it wasn’t compliant with ADA requirements. Departments had limited options for presenting the content they managed. “We were looking for a holistic solution that empowered each department and their end users to take ownership of their data and content and feel proud of their online presence,” said Jules Ung, Director of the Department of Information Technology.
