The city of Atlanta's Policing Alternatives & Diversion (PAD) Initiative has expanded citywide to reduce the arrest and incarceration of residents.. Residents can use the ATL311 non-emergency services lines to request assistance with concerns related to extreme poverty, addiction, homelessness, or mental health issues. PAD response teams provide immediate assistance and long-term support as an alternative to involving the Atlanta Police Department.

Since it began serving the entire city in July 2021, the Policing Alternatives and Diversion Initiative in Atlanta has responded to over 800 calls to 311 diverting close to 300 arrests.
