Ithaca, NY designing public safety agency to replace police
The city of Ithaca's Reimagining Public Safety Working Group is designing a new public safety agency to replace the Ithaca Police Department. The group consists of 17 members from across the city of Ithaca and Tompkins County including three police officers and representation from the LGBTQ+ community, black and brown communities, and elected officials. The group is reviewing emergency calls and determining whether local law enforcement officers need to respond.
