The Township of Langley launched the "Buy Local - Open for Business directory" to help residents find essential services and supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The directory features local businesses with social distancing requirements, delivery options, or contact-free pickup. Langley's Economic Investment and Development staff compiled the directory by calling over 600 local businesses. The directory includes businesses such as grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, animal services, etc.
This voucher program offers $40 in discounts per day to more than 350 registered local businesses. Customers show digital codes at checkout ranging from $2.50 off for purchases of $10 or more to $20 off for purchases exceeding $80. An initial fund of $300,000 was exhausted in less than one month due to the program's popularity. Territorial officials provided $200,000 to continue myDarwin along with $1 million in matching funds to other councils pursuing comparable programs.
London Borough of Haringey developed the "Haringey Connected" mobile app to provide practical support and key information to new residents. The app was designed as part of the Council's Connected Communities programme to help migrants successfully integrate into Haringey. The app includes information in multiple languages on local services and resources, cultural tips for living in the UK, local news, event details, etc.
