National City, CA approves FRED zero-emission transit program with ride-hailing capabilities
National City, CA FRED Zero-Emission Ride-Hailing Transit
Free Ride Around National City (FRED) will travel city streets starting in autumn 2022. Two plug-in electric vans provide free rides for up to eight passengers per vehicle. City officials are planning rush-hour routes between the trolley station and popular destinations to complement a ride-hailing app. National City received a state grant for FRED's first three years of operations with future years covered in part by revenue from ads on vans.
