Dallas, TX data-driven policing to reduce violent crime

Complete

The Dallas Police Department partnered with University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) criminologists to develop a violent crime reduction strategy using evidence-based practices. The strategy was created based on a hybrid of historic/predictive data modeling and integrated deterrence methods. The strategy involved identifying higher crime areas and either assigning more officers to that zone or apply more focus on a small percentage of offenders responsible for most of the crime.

The violent crime rates in the targeted areas dropped by almost 50% on average without the cost of a significant increase in overall arrests.
