The City of Köln partnered with CycloMedia to collect high-resolution, geo-referenced 3D panorama recordings of its streets. The recordings are captured using special vehicles equipped with cameras and laser scanners. The vehicles travel through public roads and any faces or license plates in the recordings are made unrecognizable to respect privacy. The city uses the recordings to make traffic assessments, settle signage disputes, plan security deployments, answer planning questions, etc.
