New York, NY augmented reality in urban development planning

Complete

The City of New York's Manhattan Community Board Five partnered with PAU and inCitu to pilot the use of augmented reality in the process of urban development. The pilot involved using the inCituAR mobile app to visualize a proposal to relocate the Madison Square Garden's Sports Facility. The inCituAR mobile app provided a platform for crowdsourcing hyper-local feedback from residents which was analyzed and presented to Community Board members.

Project Succeeded

The pilot revealed great diversity metrics of participants in the planning process and a dramatically more positive reaction overall to the proposal itself. The pilot received more younger, mixed-income, mixed-education level and renters compared to the classic audience at planning hearings and community meetings.
