Santa Clarita, CA GiveMeGreen! app bicyclist detection pilot
The City of Santa Clarita partnered with Sensys Networks to conduct a pilot of the GiveMeGreen! app for bicycle detection at signalized intersections. The pilot program was designed to improve road safety for cyclists without also inconveniencing motorists. The city integrated the app with "blank-out" signage provided by Iteris which only activate when cyclists are approaching to alert motorists. The city augmented the system with video cameras and bike lane detectors for non-smartphone users.
