The City of Seattle is creating a new specialized triage response as an alternative to police for some non-criminal 911 calls. The specialized responses will include professionals that are experts in outreach, behavioral health, and have tangible connections to the community. This specialized triage response could handle the 8,000 to 14,000 non-emergency wellness check calls that are currently being handled by police officers.

Building off of the City's work to reimagine policing and community safety, Mayor Jenny A. Durkan was joined by Councilmember Lisa Herbold and public safety leaders to announce the creation of a new specialized triage response program that will provide an alternative model for some 911 calls.
