Newcastle upon Tyne City Council, GB website checks social distancing capabilities of city centre
Newcastle upon Tyne City Council, GB social distancing
Newcastle upon Tyne City Council partnered with NE1 and the National Innovation Centre for Data to develop the "How Busy is Toon" website. The website allows residents to check the number of pedestrians in the city centre to determine how difficult it would be to social distance. The real-time information is provided by measuring footfall levels and parking spaces in the city centre. The website uses a traffic light system to alert residents to low, average, or high levels of traffic.

New website to check if the city centre is busy | Newcastle City Council
Social distancing is still very important, and Newcastle City Council wants everyone to be confident when they come into town. They have therefore worked alongside teams at Newcastle University and NE1 to develop www.howbusyistoon.com.

To help with this there is now a new website so you can check ‘how busy is toon’. It uses real time information about the number of people on Northumberland street and a traffic light system so you can check how easy it is to social distance at a certain time.
