Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, GB budget simulation

Complete

Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames used Bang the Table's EngagementHQ platform to host Balancing Act an online budget simulation tool. The combination of these tools allowed the Council to provide the community with an interactive and convenient approach to understanding, reviewing, and contributing to the budget process. The Council uses the feedback on public spending priorities to inform its decision-making regarding the budget setting process.

Balancing Kingston's budget | Kingston: Let's Talk

It's that time of year again where we're thinking about setting the budget for the new financial year. As you may be aware, Kingston’s finances are challenging and we will need to do things differently. An increase in demand for our services makes our challenge even bigger. We no longer receive any general funding from Government and the uncertainty of only receiving funding year on year means we can never plan with certainty for the long term. However, we’re proud of Kingston and ambitious about the future, even though limited finances mean that we can no longer do everything in the same ways that we have in the past. So we're keen to hear your views on how you would balance our budget and your ideas for how you could make savings or deliver services differently. Are you a business ratepayer? Tell us your views on our 2020-2021 budget proposals by Monday 10 February. Take a look at our budget proposal document and share you thoughts by filling in our short survey. Please call 020 8547 4701 if you require the survey or any other information in a different format. You can read more information about the budget on our website.

Project Succeeded

By providing online engagement, Kingston Council was able to expand its budget consultation process to a much wider audience. The budget simulator received 398 views and 42 budget submissions which was a 200% increase in attendance compared to the previous budget.
